Stakeholders
Plant breeding depends on the coordinated efforts of many different actors – from those who conserve genetic resources to those who bring new varieties to the field and to market. COLiBRI brings these actors together to shape a more coordinated, better-resourced future for plant breeding research and innovation in Europe.

Who are COLiBRI's stakeholders?
COLiBRI's Stakeholder Community spans the full plant breeding and crop production value chain, including:
- Genetic resources collections and research infrastructures
- Public research organisations and breeding institutes
- Private breeding and seed companies
- Farmers and producers, individuals and associations, across conventional and organic systems
- Processors, retailers and other end-users
- Policymakers and funding bodies
- Civil society and consumer organisations.
This breadth reflects the project's ambition: no single actor can address the research and innovation gaps facing European plant breeding alone. Our Stakeholder Community is the basis of our collaboration network and will be instrumental in its co-creation.
How we work with stakeholders
Stakeholder input is a pillar of COLiBRI. Through surveys, interviews, webinars and workshops our Stakeholder Community helps identify shared research gaps, infrastructure needs and funding priorities – co-creating the roadmap, implementation plan and governance framework for a coordinated EU-wide plant breeding network.
A dedicated Stakeholder Expert Panel of around 50 invited experts with broad and complementary expertise representing all stakeholder groups plays a key role in the project and co-creation process. During two in-person workshops, held alongside project meetings, they will first review early findings and shape the emerging framework, and in the second workshop, finalise the roadmap and implementation plan.
Join the COLiBRI Stakeholder Community
Whether you are a researcher, breeder, policymaker, farmer or innovation stakeholder, COLiBRI provides opportunities to contribute to shaping the future of European crop breeding research and innovation and become a champion for our EU-wide plant breeding network.
